“Everyone has noticed how hard it is to turn our thoughts to God when everything is going well with us… While what we call ‘our own life’ remains agreeable, we will not surrender it to Him. What, then, can God do in our interests but make ‘our own life’ less agreeable to us, and take away the plausible sources of false happiness?” C. S. Lewis
I don’t know about you, but I have definitely noticed that when my life is going well I tend to loosen up and leave God on the sideline. Unfortunately, we tend to do that from time to time. It is only when God begins to take us away from our comfort zones and take away those false sources of happiness that we turn to him in search of an answer. Every so often it is only through struggles that we are able to get closer to him and understand his will for our lives.
Lord, please help us be thirsty and long for you and your presence in our lives, we need you more than anything this world can ever offer. Please help us notice that what the world calls happiness is not true happiness, help us see that true happiness comes only through you.
